Body Wave 2

Friday, February 7, 2014
@ Artshare LA

Wasteland’s inaugural concert, Identity Resection, presents music of physical procedures and hidden identities. New and recent works by Iturralde, Eaton, McCallum, and Thorvaldsdottir reframe the identities of the voices and instruments for which these pieces are composed. McCallum pushes the trombone/trombonist to the limits of its/his physical ability mechanizing the human and humanizing the machine and Thorvaldsdottir redefines the use of the piano to reveal and magnify the sounds buried inside of the instrument. Iturralde amplifies, dramatizes, and manipulates the extremes of a soprano’s breath control and Eaton slowly builds a pulsing harmony, surrounding the audience in its resonant ambiance. (http://wastelandmusic.wordpress.com/) Tickets are $10 at the door. Reception to follow. Music by: Daniel Walter Eaton Anna Thorvaldsdóttir Clinton McCallum Carlos Iturralde Performances by: Stephanie Aston Matt Barbier Justin DeHart Dan Eaton Batya MacAdam-Somer Jon Stehny Nicholas Deyoe

Music for Two Cars @ Autry Overlook

a collaborative sound installation by
Daniel Eaton
Approximate Duration: 3 Hours (1:00 - 4:00 pm)
Autry Overlook is a multichannel sound piece for two car stereo systems.  Mantione and Eaton will compose music separately based on a predefined form and structure.  As the piece unfolds, new textures will emerge as the synchronization between vehicles begins to shift.  Cars will be periodically repositioned, and doors, windows and trunk lids reconfigured to create new sonic relationships. Viewers will be encouraged to move around the space for a multifaceted experience.
A companion piece called Passersby, will document the anonymous and random comments, sounds, and/or sonic instigations of visitors. These recordings will be used for future sound works by both Eaton and Mantione.

Sunday, February 13, 2011
@ Val Verde CA

A work for trombone, laptop, tuned drum, and puppet effigy.  Meant as a prologue to the installation “A Dream Adventure”, an effigy was lowered 100 ft from a hillside by a pulley system as harmonics generated with the trombone via laptop were stacked upon each other.  The percussionist(Sean Woodman) was asked to play processionally on a drum tuned to the fundamental frequency.  The effigy was part of an installation for the Februarfest in Val Verde created by Kristin Haroldsdottir, where viewers were asked to feed the effigy personal problems and/or fears with pen and paper.   The conclusion of the performance ended in a mock sacrifice(Robert Holiday) of the effigy.  This work explored the notion of ritual and shared personal conflict.
